Stop Wondering What You're Going To Do About Your Sales Career. Try This.

The uncertainty of the job market can be scary. Will I lose my job? Why am I not seeing as many jobs to apply for? How can I keep up with the changes in the market to get the job I want?

You spiral down this vortex of feeling like it's all bad news out there and you don't have a chance of finding the job you really want.

Most of the people that I help are between the ages of 35-55. They are mid-senior level Salespeople or Sales Leaders and they have at least 10-15 years of progressive sales experience behind them. They are either out of work and looking for a job, or in a job that isn't fulfilling and want more.

When we meet, there is either a distressing, anxious, exasperated, or even baffling tone of explanation regarding their current situation with work or trying to find work. We navigate through these conversations with care and caution to uncover if and how I can help!

It's rare that I meet with 20-25-year-olds AND even more rare that they are a highly prepared candidate. But last week, I met Trent.

Trent is just starting out in his career after finishing University and graduating with a Marketing degree. He had done some small marketing jobs, but is working in an unfulfilling role at a company that offers little growth for him.

But Trent didn't join the meeting to ask about the market, or even ask me if I have any open roles for him. Trent was looking for feedback. He had spent time and energy on his resume, Linkedin profile and pitch to employers. He had created a portfolio of his recent work. He even had a target list of companies and industries he desired to work him (Sports Marketing roles were his passion and ultimate goal).

I was pleasantly surprised and it made the 30-minute discussion to set him up for success, versus having a conversation about why the things he was trying weren't working out for him. The difference was that he had done the work to audit his career (yes I know he's only got a few years of work experience).

That experience reminded me of a Self-Assessment that I created a few years ago. A simple mindset exercise to prepare you for taking that next step in your career journey. Or to calm down your active brain from thinking that everything is going sideways!

My personal motto - "You Always Have A Choice"

Our business tagline - "Do Something Different Today"

I share these with you here to remind you that you don't have to be stuck!

The next time you jump on a call with a Recruiter or Apply for a Job, Interview with a Hiring Manager or even think about leaving your current job, spend 10 minutes asking yourself these questions.

Self Assessment

Your honest answers will reveal if you’re aligned with what recruiters and hiring managers REALLY want.

  1. 1On a scale from 1 to 10, how well do you understand what recruiters and hiring managers are REALLY looking for in high-performance sales talent?
  2. Have you identified any recurring feedback or patterns in your past job rejections or early exits from sales roles? (Yes/No – If yes, briefly note what keeps coming up.)
  3. In the last 6 months, have you taken concrete steps to update and tailor your professional brand (e.g., your resume, LinkedIn profile, or interview techniques) to reflect your true value and achievements?
  4. Do you have a clear vision of the type of sales role and company culture where you can thrive, rather than just accepting any offer that comes your way?
  5. Are you asking yourself ANY of these questions:

Why Can’t I get hired?

Why aren’t I getting the interviews I want?

Why aren’t I getting the callbacks?

Why do I get into these jobs only to find that I hate it within the first 30-90 days?

If you answered less than a score of "5" on question 1, "NO" to questions 2-4 and are asking yourself any of the questions listed under #5 - it's time to take a new direction in your search for meaningful work and realizing that you don't have to struggle through this!

You aren't where you want to be, but need to narrow down the problem.
